July. Noon. Not a scrap of shade.
The rope is polyester cord made for outdoors. It stands up to ultraviolet, does not fade in the sun and keeps its strength and give.
The ash armrests are treated for outdoor use and keep their grain and their warmth under the hand.
September. Rain since morning.
Rope does not mind the wet: it is made to resist moisture and swings of temperature.
Cushion covers zip off for the wash. On Geneva the fabric has a water-repellent finish, and several rattan sets use olefin outdoor fabric.
October. The first frost.
Mornings below zero, afternoons in the sun. Here is what each material is made to take.
Ash
Solid ash with a special treatment for the open air. It keeps its natural grain and warmth.
Rattan
Premium synthetic rattan, woven by hand. Resists UV, moisture and frost; does not fade or crack.
Frame
Welded steel or aluminium, depending on the set. Tops of tempered glass, ceramic granite or HPL panel.
Cushions
Filled with polyester, periotec and synthetic down. Covers on zips come off for washing.

January.
The terrace sleeps. Covers off and washed, cushions indoors until spring.
March. The light comes back before the warmth does.
May.
Everything goes back where it stood. The same rope, the same colour, another summer.
